The Continued Tale...

Hello friends! (and other passer-by's...) So I realize how cruel I was for not posting the Bridal pictures right away, but I had to wait for them to be done... and now they are! Yay! So here you go, the Continued Tale of the Tie-Dye Wedding Dress!

These BEAUTIFUL pictures were lovingly taken by Shantel Peaden (aka Red Ladder Photography). She is amazing and I thank her profoundly!!!

P.S. If you haven't read my previous post, you should probably do that... It makes me look less crazy and more crafty ;)

So this was the first picture I saw (she posted it a couple days before I saw the rest of them) and I absolutely fell in love with it! I love the colors, the composition, it's so beautiful!
This is one of Shantel's favorites :)
I love the fun angle!

So I love bouquet pictures, because I think they're so much fun! So we took a few... but this one is my favorite of them :)
Shantel and I have this obsession with partial/feet pictures. They are so creative :)
This is another one of my favorites (I have a lot of favorites as you can tell...)
Random Fact about Allison #429: I took a floral arranging class my junior year of high school. I really enjoy arranging flowers but I don't do it very often because... well... flowers die really fast. So it's an expensive thing to do - however, I most definitely arranged and made this bouquet! I'm kind of proud of it!
With the Logan Temple in the background (kind of a fun contrast: Tie Dye vs. Temple)
I really like this one.
This is one of my ALL TIME favorites! Probably because it was so much fun to sit and lay in a pile of beautiful leaves, and because it's great.
Intense stare into the distance
I love the giant encircling of leaves!
This is another one of my favorites - yes, the building I'm standing next to is actually teal. Perfect? We thought so. I love it!
I like this one because the lighting accents the purple and the teal within the building.
It's fun to have at least one picture in Black and White!
And in color...
So if you look closely, you will see that my earrings are in fact purple and teal. I got them several months ago for my birthday, but it's kind of really awesome that they match. Just thought you should know.
I like this one too :)
Random Fact About Allison #32: I LOVE art history. I'm kind of a nerd like that. But I love the Ionic columns and the pediments on this building. I realize most of you have know idea what I'm talking about, so just know that I am a nerd.
I like the angle on this one too - it catches the train of my dress really cool.
I love this one too! Another great picture of the train.
Haha so this picture was supposed to be a joke... We were trying to come up with new pose ideas, and jokingly I did this, and it looks hilarious, but I kind of enjoy it.
I like this one too. (Okay, so I like all of them)
Ta-da! Here I am!
I'm a goof. I had to take a couple of silly pictures because it wouldn't be a photo shoot of me without at least ONE ridiculous face!
Pondering... something...
Just so you know - the ring is totally fake. I'm a LONG way from being engaged or married - I promise. The center stone is purple-ish, so it matched the dress. Hence, my purchasing of it. Yes. It's crazy. I'm aware.
I loved these black doors! They were gorgeous. Shantel has a great photographer "eye" of seeing photo-potential in the most random of places. You can also see how cool the bustle is on my dress. If you look really carefully you can see the under-layer of the dress, which is actually a different color. When I died the dress, the different fabrics dyed differently, so the dress is kind of muted, whereas the lining is really vibrant. Kind of fun!
Jumping Picture: Excellent. There is another really hilarious jumping picture that I will post eventually.
Aren't these doors so classy? I think they're great!
When Shantel asked me where I wanted to do the photo shoot, I told her I didn't care - I just wanted a couple of pictures in a wheat field. Well, if you didn't know, they cut down wheat in the fall. Weird, right? So here is our wheat field... aka wheat-looking weed field pictures!
I'm not praying to the flowers. I promise.
I love this one too!
These last few were taken in the driveway behind a random insurance building. But they're scenery was so photo-worthy!
I really adore this picture. I think the content contrast is super!
You can really see an epic swirl on my dress in this picture. I enjoy that.
We were walking back to Shantel's car when she said: "Wait! Allison! Keep holding your train! I want a couple of pictures like that!" And so we did.
And last but not least...
Thanks for looking at all my fun pictures! There are more coming... these are a small fraction of the pictures we took (if you can believe it). But I couldn't wait any longer to post them!

I have absolutely LOVED this adventure of tie-dying a wedding dress! It was seriously SO much fun! I know it's kind of crazy, but so am I, so what are you going to do? Thanks for playing :)

The Tale of a Tie-Dye Wedding Dress

The Beginning:
When I was 12 I learned how to tie-dye. Since that day, I have always wanted to tie-dye a wedding dress. I know it's random, but I did. Then, this summer I decided I was finally going to do it, so I began a search for a dress I could dye. I realized something in my search... you can really only tie-dye cotton. They don't make wedding dresses out of cotton. So, my lovely roommate Brittany suggested something brilliant - I should MAKE the wedding dress! Then I could make it what I wanted, AND it would be out of cotton.

So I began the search again - but this time for a pattern. I fou
nd a pattern I liked, and before I knew it, I was at the fabric store! So, here is the pattern I chose along with the fabric in it's early stages...
The Sewing Project:
I love to sew! I took sewing lessons for several years, but I haven't sewn in a long time. Taking on a huge project like this was kind of intimidating, but it was also a lot of fun. It was a total of of 10 yards of fabric, and it took me all day! Yes, I did it in one day. Ten hours (the equivalent of five movies) later... It was a dress!

It started with the bodice...
...then it emerged into the skirt and the godets....
...and then finally the hem... It was quite the long haul!
...then... the Sleeves! It was quite the ordeal... You see, the dress pattern is originally a scoop neck, and I followed the pattern and made it so. However, I wanted it to be modest, so I fully intended to add in sleeves. Then the problem arose... I was making the dress by myself at my house. The dress had no zipper yet. I attempted to fit the sleeves. Anyone see the problem yet? Let me draw a picture for you: I'm wearing a half-made dress, holding the back of the dress together, and trying to design how to put in the sleeve. It was rough. As such, I decided to wait until my mom got back from vacation to put in the sleeves. She helped me design them and make a pattern piece for them. So here I am cutting out my sleeves wearing my half-made dress...Now the moment you've all been waiting for! The complete dress, (minus the zipper) in it's whiteness. Yes, I know, it actually looks like a wedding dress! I was just as surprised as you ;)The Tie-Dying Phase:
Okay, so here is my favorite part! I love to tie-dye! I decided that a project of this stature deserved a pre-test. Therefore, I bought the colors I was interested in with a few white t-shirts. Little did I know that the small t-shirts I bought were CHILD smalls, not ADULT smalls. Whoops! Oh well. It will make a nice gift for my niece :)Abi had a tie-dying project of her own to do, so we did them together! The final result! There are five different combination's (as you can see), and I chose the combination in the middle - purple and teal. The other colors were fun, but I decided that purple and teal was the most me :) Then it was finally time to dye the dress itself! (I also have always wanted to tie-dye shoes, so I took advantage of this opportunity) Oh, so I forgot to take pictures of the actual dying process, but these are lovely pictures of me rinsing out the dye...
This is one of my favorite parts of the process - rinsing it out to see what it looks like! It's definitely very intense...
So there you have it! The early stages of the Tale of the Tie-Dye Wedding Dress! I realize it's a bit crazy, and I also realize it's not complete... But you'll just have to wait for the rest!

But the rest of the crazy story will be not too far along... I'll give you a hint: Shantel was kind enough to spend the day doing a bridal photo shoot with me! We did the whole thing - a bouquet, a silly fake ring, and a tie-dye wedding dress!

For a sneak peak...Stay tuned for the rest!
